Windows 10 End Of Life
 

With windows 10 ending support in October 2025 there are several options.

 Clients with Lytec 2015 and higher, if the PC meets Microsoft’s hardware requirements, the PC can be upgraded to Windows 11 for free excluding labor cost to assist with the upgrade.

Considering the age and performance of the PC and the low cost (Less than $200.00) to replace the PC with a new Windows 11 mini-PC may be a better way to go.

Clients with pre 2015 Lytec can not upgrade to Windows 11. Microsoft has provided Extended Security Updates (ESU) program to extend support for a year for $30 .

To be able to use the program you have to be logged using a Microsoft account as an Administrator  and the PC have the latest updates and be at the windows 22H2 version.

If there are PCs that do not have older Lytec you may want to consider the age and performance of the PC and the low cost (Less than $200.00) to replace the PC with a new Windows 11 mini-PC may be a better way to go.

Anti-Virus’ and Windows 10 End of Life

Anti-Virus’ ability to protect Windows 10 users after the operating system reaches its End-of-Life (EOL) in October 2025 is limited. 

Here's why:

• Microsoft's EOL impacts ESET's effectiveness: After Windows 10 EOL, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or bug fixes for the operating system. This means that even with Eset installed, new vulnerabilities in the Windows 10 OS will remain unpatched, increasing the risk of exploits and making users more vulnerable to cyberattacks. Anti-Virus’ ability to protect against threats is inherently linked to the underlying security of the operating system it runs on.
• Some Anti-Virus may cease providing support and updates for outdated products compatible with Windows 10: Some older product versions might be initially compatible with Windows 10 even after EOL, Anti-Virus’ may eventually discontinue support, including critical security and stability updates and module updates for those versions. Running an outdated Anti-Virus’ products on an unsupported operating system leaves you doubly exposed to risks.
• Wet recommend upgrading to a supported operating system: We strongly advises users to upgrade to Windows 11 or a supported alternative operating system as soon as possible to avoid a "security fiasco". This is crucial for maintaining a strong security posture. 

In essence, while some Anti-Virus’ may still function on a Windows 10 system after EOL, its effectiveness will be significantly reduced due to the lack of operating system-level security updates from Microsoft. To ensure continued protection, upgrading to a supported operating system and running the latest compatible Anti-Virus products is highly recommended.
